About Bertha

This website is dedicated to two Berthas who have greatly influenced my life. The first is my beloved Nana, Bertha Waters. Though she grew up in poverty, she had a "make-do" attitude which always saw her through life. She culled together bits and pieces of what had been discarded, and transformed those disparate finds into the extraordinary. From her, I have learned hard work and resourcefulness. I am forever grateful to have inherited her creative vision.

The second is my 86-year-old cousin, Bertha Phillips, better known to our family as "Queen Bea". Wisdom is her crown; generosity is her adornment, and faith is her throne. From her, I have learned the power of an encouraging word, a generous spirit, and an attitude of kindness.

I salute these ladies, along with all of my friends and family members who inspire me to create, and support me while I pursue this and many more dreams.
